📅 7-Day Wait
Unlocking the bootloader completely wipes your device. Back up all photos, contacts, WhatsApp, and apps before starting. This also voids your manufacturer warranty.

02
Enable Developer Options
1
Open Settings → About phone → All specs
2
Tap HyperOS/MIUI version exactly 7 times rapidly. You'll see "You are now a developer!"
3
Go to Settings → Additional settings → Developer options
4
Enable USB debugging and OEM Unlocking
5
Tap Mi Unlock status → Add account and device — log in with your Mi Account
03
Download & Setup Mi Unlock Tool
1
Download Mi Unlock Tool from the official Xiaomi developer site or xiaomiflash.com
2
Extract the ZIP and run miflash_unlock.exe as Administrator
3
Sign in with the same Mi Account you added on your phone
4
Install USB drivers if prompted — they're bundled with the tool
04
The 7-Day Wait
Xiaomi requires your Mi Account to be linked to your device for at least 7 days. This is mandatory — you cannot skip or bypass it. Plan accordingly.
After linking your account, the countdown starts automatically. Keep the phone on and connected to internet daily.
Do NOT factory reset, change Mi Account, or remove SIM during this period — it resets the timer.
05
Unlock the Bootloader
💡
After 7 days have passed, follow these steps to actually unlock.
1
Power off your phone completely
2
Hold Volume Down + Power until the Fastboot screen appears (MI bunny logo)
3
Connect to your PC via USB-C cable
4
Open Mi Unlock Tool — it detects your device. Click Unlock and confirm the warning
5
The device wipes and reboots. This is normal. Wait patiently.
Or via ADB (Advanced):
# Boot into fastboot mode first, then: fastboot devices ► [your device serial] fastboot fastboot oem unlock ► OKAY [ 0.001s] Finished.
06
Verify Unlock
1
After first boot setup, go to Settings → Additional Settings → Developer options
2
OEM Unlocking should appear greyed out and toggled ON — this confirms success
3
You'll see a small orange padlock icon at boot — this is normal and expected on unlocked devices
Bootloader is unlocked! You can now flash a custom recovery (TWRP or OrangeFox) and then any custom ROM.
